Berkeley County High School Football Kicks Off Another Great Season

Last night kicked off the 2010 Berkeley County Football Season with Junior Varsity and a special Thursday night Varsity game between West Ashley and Bishop England that was televised live on MyNetworkTV.     We had a fabulous 2009 with over 63 transaction sides closed for over $11 million in sales. This concluded my best year in the business. We had a very successful 3rd Annual Fall Festival with over 1,400 attendees, raising over 1,100 pounds of food and $400 in cash for the Helping Hands of Goose Creek. We added a new buyer’s representative, Andrea Parler, over the summer. We also administered our first ever Home Buyer Seminar. We had 29 attendees. Of the 29 attendees, three of these buyers have already purchased a home!

    We have set the bar high for 2010. We are setting a goal of over 90 transaction sides closed for over $16 million. We will once again host our annual Fall Festival, October 23, 2010. We will also administer a Home Buyer Seminar, May 8, in connection with Family Services at the Goose Creek Recreation Center. We have also planned outdoor events starting this week. Drew Sineath & Associates will be at the 1st Annual Riverfront Race Festival in North Charleston this Friday from 5-8. If you plan to race this Saturday come out Friday to pick up your packet early and stop by our booth. We will have a fantastic giveaway and some great things to do for the kids. So COME BY!

    Drew Sineath & Associates will be attending the annual Flowertown Festival in Summerville for the first time this year. The event is in March this year for the first time, running from March 26-28. Come by our booth for some great door prizes and activities!     Bring in 2010 Charleston Style

    Whether you’re new to Charleston, SC or even lived here your whole life, here are a few ways to ring in 2010 in true Charleston Style.

    Get Wet at the Dunleavy’s Pub Polar Plunge on Sullivan’s Island

    Well, it may not be as cold as the northern waters at Conney Island in NY but rest asure that the Atlantic Ocean In January even in Charleston, SC will have you shaking to your core. That however will not stop over 2,500 people from taking the annual New Year’s Day plunge to help benefit the South Carolina chapter of Special Olympics. What started almost 20 years ago as a drunken dare between friends at Dunleavy’s Pub, this event has catapulted into a well known tradition bringing in more people than Memorial Day and the 4Th of July to Sullivan’s Island, SC. In 2002 the event teamed up to help the Special Olympics and has raised over $200,000 for the organization. Some people take pledges to plunge, while others just do it for the fun. Even if you decide to stay warm on the sand, there is still fun to be had. Like many events of this nature, there will certainly be costumes and wild get-ups. Be on the lookout for Precious P and Jolly Jake, the life-size polar bears as well as the “Bucket Brigade” carrying donation buckets. If you are looking for a new tradition to kick off your new year in Charleston, SC, then join the party at Dunleavy’s Pub, 2213-B Middle Street on Sullivan’s Island, at 11 a.m.  The plunge will take place at 2 p.m.

    Kick Your New Year’s Resolution off Right at 8th Annual Trident United Way Resolution Run

    If you are like most, you are telling yourself that 2010 is the year to finally stick to that resolution to loose those extra pounds. Well, what better day to start than the very first days of the year? Sign up for the 8th Annual Trident United Way Resolution Run to be held on Saturday at Riley Park. The entry fee is only $25 for adults, which includes a long-sleeve t-shirt and timing chip. The event will begin at Riley Park, wind around Hampton Park and the Citadel Parade Grounds, then end in Riley Park. Registration begins at 7 a.m. and parking is free.     Join DSA at the Riverfront Race Festival

    Perhaps you have made that resolution to loose weight but need a little more time to get into the swing of things. Join me and Drew Sineath & Associates at the Riverfront Race Festival in North Charleston on Saturday, Jan. 16, 2010. Drew Sineath & Associates will be sponsoring the race and I will be competing in the Half Marathon. See below for the schedule

    On Sunday January 17 there will be an optional 62 and 30 mile bicycle ride starting at 7:00am. The course will begin in N. Charleston at the Old Navy base at Noisette and wonder through old N Chas and the surrounding area. The bicycle race is being run by CharlestonMoves.org

    Seven Signs that Charleston SC is Still Thriving

    In the current Charleston Regional Business Journal’s article, “Deals of the Year” seven clear signs that signify a striving, thriving Charleston, SC are examined.

    1. Boeing’s decision to assemble Dreamliners in North Charleston launched the Lowcountry in the global business’s radar as the next-generation world class aerospace hub and create 4,000 jobs for the area. Boeing also bought Vought, the Dreamliner fuselage assembly plant in North Charleston, SC bringing this key supplier back in the Lowcountry.   
    2. The State Ports Authority (SPA) manages to keep the world’s largest shipping line, Maersk, on board and calling on Charleston, SC until at least 2014. Along with this came the announcement, TBC Corp, the parent company of Tire Kingdom and other retail stores, to build a logistics center in the rural Jedburg and Carnival Cruise Lines announced it will begin offering cruises from Charleston. The SPA will be resigning the downtown Union Pier Cruise Terminal.
    3. The Clemson University Restoration Institute in North Charleston was awarded a $45 million grant from the U.S. Department of Energy combined with $53 million matching funds to build a test facility for the “next generation” of wind turbines at the former Navy Base. This could make the Lowcountry a magnet for wind energy manufacturing jobs and allow Clemson University to offer its engineers the chance to do cutting-edge research.
    4. SPA Signs Contract with New Chief Executive, Jim Newsome. Newsome has excellent international shipping credentials to help raise the Port of Charleston’s standing on the East Coast.
    5. Congress approved the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act which funded a wide variety of projects that have helped local firms keep working, such as re-roofing of public housing and construction projects at the state’s military installations. It also directed $700 million to help SC state government, most of it for schools.
    6. State Treasurer Converse Chellis pleads with State Budget and Control Board to support a $9.2 million loan to fix the 65 year old USS Laffey. The World War II ship nicknamed, “The Ship that Would Not Die” was in serious danger of sinking. The ship rest at Patriots Point, a huge tourist and revenue generator for the Lowcountry.
    7. The Hollings Cancer Center received NCI designation from the National Cancer Institute along with $7.37 million to Hollings and MUSC. That amount is expected to spur an additional $20 million in research funding in the next five years. The recognition means Hollings can attract top researchers, who bring with them cutting-edge technology, clinical trials, and ideas.

    The Lowcountry is making great stride in technological, industrial, and environmental innovation.   It has always been a great place to live and these seven “deals” made this year will only aid to the growth and economical recovery to the place we all love to call home.
