Summerville is a beautiful town located near Charleston, SC. Just like Charleston, Summerville has its vast history. It is large with plenty of things to do in the area, many being family-friendly. The hub of the Summerville area is its historic downtown area. This is where many events such as festivals, farmer’s markets, and other events take place. The Flowertown festival kicks off spring in the downtown and azalea park area. The farmer’s markets take place from April to November. The Sweet Tea festival takes place in September where patrons get the opportunity to taste a variety of sweet tea and vote on their favorite. These are just a few examples of events that take place in Downtown Summerville. 

There are many restaurants and entertaining activities available in Downtown Summerville. There is Frothy Beard Off World Brewing, Sweetwater One Twenty-Three, Simple Treasures, and Coastal Coffee Roasters for food, drink, and desserts. For entertainment, there is Nailed It, The Flowertown Players, The Axe Joint, and Selfie Addict Studio LLC plus more. There are also many boutiques, stores, and specialty shops. There is Nina Belle’s Boutique, Main Street Reads, Lowcountry Olive oil, and antique shops. 

Parks in Summerville 

There are many parks in Summerville with walking trails, playgrounds, and dog friendly. 

Azalea Park is a park located near downtown Summerville that is beautiful, especially during the spring with the Azalea flowers blooming. It is landscaped with flower beds, ponds, sculptures, winding walking trails, and tennis courts. 

Gahagen Park is a large park located in Summerville that has plenty of activities to keep the family entertained. It has baseball and football fields that often have little league games going on depending on the season. The local youth athletics company Sertoma uses the football fields for their flag and tackle football games. There is also a big castle-like playground and picnic tables. 

Ashley River Park is a Dorchester County park that features a playground, picnic shelters, a splash pad for kids, a fishing pond, a riverside walking trail, a kayak launch, an event lawn, and dog parks for both small and large dogs.
