When news hit that the interest rate dropped again to a new historic low in over 50 years coupled with a report that new home sales decreased by 33%, local realtor Drew Sineath was asked to comment for Charleston’s Channel 2 News. Unfortunately Drew was unavailable so his marketing coordinator, Kristen Lanier, filled in for him.  Watch the video above or read the full story below.

Channel 2 talked to Kristen while she was covering for Drew Sineath & Associates new team members, Bob Winstead and Dianne McLawhorn, at Epcon Communities Marrington Villas at Cobblestone, a new development in Summerville SC offering luxury style detached homes and townhomes, while they trained in Ohio. Shown in the video above and pictured below.

The news that interest rates dropped to a new low today came as a bit of good news in what has been a tough market recently for many agents like Kristen.

She says the lower interest rate helps ease the bad news out Tuesday that new home sales were down 33% in May. Lanier says while the drop is not good, it was expected, since the real estate tax credits are expiring.

She is hoping Congress extends the credits to September. As far as the business in general, she says their company had it’s best year ever last year.

They are hoping to end this year strong as well.

Hey everyone. Hope you are having a great Tuesday. We just returned from the Daniel Island Club for the 2009 Realtor (R) of Distinction award ceremony. I was recognized in the Executive Circle, the highest level awarded. I was one of only 30 recipients out of the entire board of 4,751 members to be recognized for this award. This was a great year for Drew Sineath & Associates and it has a pleasure to have my team with me at the ceremony. The total number of listings on the market decreased at the beginning of 2010 compared to 2009 by almost 14% brining our total inventory down to close to a 12-month supply. A balanced market only has a 5-6 month supply of homes available. And while we are clearly still in a “buyers market” the inventory numbers are starting to reflect a more balanced picture in the market.  Affordable home prices, low interest rates and the first-time home buyers tax credit has all helped reduce supply. We are actually starting to see dual offers being made on several of our listings!

We are looking to possibly move our event schedule around for 2010. Originally we planned to attend the Flowertown Festival in March and do our HomeBuyer Workshop in May.
