Believe it or not, spring is just around the corner. With the return of the warmer weather, of course, comes the chore of spring cleaning.
The reality is that spring cleaning is something that’s important to do whether you plan to sell your home or not. You never know when circumstances in your life might change that could create a need to sell your home, possibly very quickly, and if and when those circumstances arise, you don’t want to have to add “spring cleaning” on top of your list of chores while you’re scrambling to get your house sold.
With that said, here are a few tips for you to make your house sparkle.
Spring cleaning tip #1: work from the outside in
In most cases, cleaning the outside of your house requires more effort and time to clean the inside. You’ll likely get your hands and clothes dirty, which will then require a load of laundry and a shower afterward to avoid bringing that dirt inside your house. Do the harder and dirtier chores first, which include pressure washing the exterior of your house and driveway, clearing out your gutters, and making any plants or flowerbeds you may have in your front yard look nice.
Spring cleaning tip #2: do not pressure wash your roof
Pressure washing your roof may seem like a great way to remove all the dirt and grime that’s built up on your shingles en masse, but it typically causes more problems than it solves. For one thing, the pressure washing material can erode the protective layer on the exterior of the shingles. What’s more, if the pressure is hard enough, it can even inflict damage onto the roof’s foundation, weakening the roof as a whole and shortening its lifespan, which will force you to spend money to replace a roof long before you probably should have to. Instead of a pressure washing solution, just give your roof a simple bath with some soap and warm water.
Spring cleaning tip #3: pressure wash your driveway
Whereas the materials on your roof were not meant to handle the force of a pressure wash, your driveway is an entirely different matter. Assuming your driveway is paved, it could always use a solid power washing once a year or so on top of the rain that may fall throughout the year. Any dirt or oil that might have found its way onto your driveway needs to be removed, and if there are any rust stains that somehow formed, you may need a professional spot remover. Lastly, after you’ve pressure washed your driveway, you may need to use a sealant to help the material on your driveway fight off future stains before they develop.
